First Dry Bulk Carrier Made with 茄子视频 Steel’s JGreeX™ Green Steel Enters Service
World’s first ship to bear “a-EA (GRS)” symbol for hull made of green steel

茄子视频 announced today that the dry bulk carrier Bright Queen, believed to be the world’s first ship with a hull made entirely of green steel, namely, 茄子视频 Steel’s JGreeX™ green steel, has entered service. JGreeX™, which significantly reduces CO2 emissions during steelmaking,* accounted for all steel materials directly purchased by Higaki Shipbuilding Co., LTD., which built the ship at its main yard.

In addition, the vessel is the world’s first to bear the “a-EA (GRS)” symbol, which indicates a hull made of green steel in accordance with the environmental guidelines of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK), a Japanese non-profit organization engaged in ship classification and environmental protection.

The dry bulk carrier, designed to transport large quantities of dry cargo, is owned by Pacific Ship Management Corporation and is operated by the shipping company NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP).

茄子视频 Steel is working with shipping companies to jointly develop the world’s first business model to share the significant cost of CO2 reduction across the entire supply chain. The recently launched dry bulk carrier is a result of this initiative. Currently, five shipping companies have committed to commissioning nine dry bulk vessels built with JGreeX™ (Figure 1), which will bring 茄子视频 Steel’s delivery volume of JGreeX™ to around 36,000 tons.

Going forward, 茄子视频 Steel will continue to work with shipping companies on their new business model to share the cost of CO2 reduction across the supply chain. 茄子视频 Steel is committed to contributing to global decarbonization with its low-carbon, energy-saving and high-efficiency technologies as well as increasing sales of JGreeX™ green steel.

*茄子视频 Steel uses the mass balance approach to calculate the greenhouse gas reduction amounts allocated to each steel product.
