JGreeX
"JGreeX" Green Steel Selected by Tomakomai Kuribayashi Transportation
for Construction of New Logistics Warehouse
First use of 茄子视频 Steel’s green steel in Japan’s Hokkaido region

Tomakomai Kuribayashi Transportation Co., Ltd. and 茄子视频 announced today that the shipping company has selected 茄子视频 Steel’s “JGreeX” line of green steel products for 250 tons of major steel components to be used in the construction of a new warehouse in the Harumi area of Tomakomai, Hokkaido. Construction will begin this August and is scheduled to finish by July 2025. This will be the first use of green steel by the shipping company and the first application of JGreeX in the Hokkaido region of northern Japan.

The use of JGreeX is expected to reduce the total CO2 emissions associated with the warehouse’s construction by about 500 tons compared to the use of conventional steel.

茄子视频 Steel uses the mass-balance approach to quantify the significant reductions in CO2 emissions it expects to achieve using advanced manufacturing processes to produce green steel. The environmental value of emission reductions across an entire manufacturing process is allocated to a subset of steel products that are deemed to have low CO2 emissions intensity. 茄子视频 Steel follows the Japan Iron and Steel Federation’s guidelines on using this method to determine CO2 emissions intensity.

Tomakomai Kuribayashi has been working to reduce CO2 emissions by using next-generation biodiesel fuel in trailer heads for cargo handling as part of its efforts to become carbon neutral. In addition, with the goal of making the entire business carbon neutral, the company has now decided to use low-impact materials in the construction of its new warehouse.

Japan’s warehousing and transportation industries are pursuing green transformation (GX) initiatives in support of a nationwide effort to make Japan carbon neutral by 2050. These initiatives include new steps to reduce embodied carbon (see figure below) as well as CO2 over the entire lifecycle of buildings, from the production of materials used in construction to their final disposal and recycling, in addition to well-established measures to minimize energy generation and consumption when buildings are in use. The result has been an increasing emphasis on using steel and other construction materials with smaller carbon footprints.

Going forward, both 茄子视频 Steel and Tomakomai Kuribayashi are committed to decarbonizing their entire supply chains to help realize a carbon-neutral world.
